Knowbly supports xAPI (TinCan) course and widget outputs. Now in Knowbly, you can export full courses or individual widgets as xAPI packages with standard interaction reporting.
The ExperienceAPI (xAPI) is a new specification for learning technology that can capture a wide range of experiences a person has with learning content. Like previous specifications, xAPI is meant to be interoperable, but unlike previous specifications, xAPI is much more flexible and customizable on what data is actually reported. If you are not familiar with xAPI, you can access a more detailed overview here: https://xapi.com/overview/
Publishing a course or widget as xAPI
To publish a course or widget as xAPI, first access the publishing screen. You can get to the publishing screen via the course or widget tile:
Or in the course or widget editor, via the gear icon in the upper left:
Once on the publishing screen, select xAPI from the pull down format options. You can set completion and passing thresholds at the course or assessment level here.
Our current xAPI output matches SCORM standard interaction reporting. In future releases we will support extending and customizing statements.
Connection to a LRS
Our current xAPI implementation depends on connection to a LRS via your LMS. In a future release we will support connecting LRS endpoints directly via Knowbly.
To connect your LMS to the LRS, please refer to the guide here:
This is our initial release for xAPI and we have subsequent releases planned around:
- connecting LRS endpoints within Knowbly
- extending xAPI statements
- supporting custom statement profiles.
This is just the beginning of our support and we’d love to hear from you how you are planning to use it - please email any questions or feedback to us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
